Last week in my Intermediate Fiction Workshop class...

We were supposed to submit five-seven pages of a collection of short stories or the start of a novel. Well, guess who missed that memo? I submitted all thirty-seven pages I have written so far.

Yesterday I was reading the feedback from my instruction.

One thing she says is, “You need to set up the setting and the characters before you get to the inciting incident. We need to be rooted in the story,” or something very similar.

Well crap.

If a reader picks up book two first, they’re not gonna know that Kiara has red hair and green eyes or the story takes place in Austin. All that is shown in book one.

Well, back to the beginning.
