What's my responsibility to an editor?

Be consistent. If you say, "Hey, I'll have the first draft to you by Tuesday at 5 pm," by 5 pm on Tuesday you better be sending them an email with the story attached. Of course, stuff happens. Which leads me to my next point.

Communicate with your editor. If life happens like it loves to do, let them know. "Hey sorry, life's crazy this week. Draft'll be to you by Monday" is perfect.

Be timely. When the editor gets the suggestions back to you, don't sit on it for eight months. Read their suggestions within a day or three. Then think about what they say for another day or three. Once you've done that, go back and dismiss the recommendations you don't like. Then work on the ones you do.

Lucia Sugafield, doing my part.
