Who says we can't use friends or family members to edit our writing?

Everybody!

"Don't have anyone remotely close to you edit your work. They don't want to hurt your feelings."

I get it.

I had my aunt edit the first version of my novel. She did an outstanding job in some areas. However, she didn't understand where I was going. She let things slide she shouldn't have because it's my novel.

"Thank you for doing this, but I need to know that the storyline makes sense and is logical."

In short, you need an unbiased eye on your work. If you're going to send it out into the world, you'll want it to be as perfect as it can be. Friends or family literally can't be unbiased - they know you on a personal level.

Lucia Sugafield, wondering what I was thinking.
